Facebook’s subscription services coming to iOS app
Apple and Facebook have settled issues on its plan to launch a subscription service for publishers on the iOS app. Previously available for Android devices, Facebook also intends on rolling the feature out come March.
Facebook executive Campbell Brown shared news of the resolution at the Code Media conference in Huntington Beach, California. Campbell disclosed no further details on the agreement’s exact terms. Apple initially wanted to claim 30 percent revenue on iOS-based subscriptions, which spurred on the clash in the first place.
Through Facebook’s news subscription services, users can only read a few free articles before paying up to view more content. As of now, Facebook doesn’t earn money for this feature. The app only redirects readers to publisher websites, where they can subscribe for more content.
