Facebook’s officially confirmed their plan to revive the public group chat feature. In fact, it’s rolling out a test version of Facebook Messenger Rooms on Android in two select markets: Australia and Canada.

Not only that, but leaked code suggests that it will be similar to the old rooms app while bringing in new functions. ONe of these is the ability to create or search for a room based on a given topic, and afterwards, anyone can join. For added safety measures, it’s also possible to require approval from a mod or admin before new participants are added.

No word yet, however, on whether or not Rooms will make it to other countries for a test run. Besides, it does seem that this Australia-Canada launch is a mere beta phase, where a smaller audience can test the English language features. But don’t fret, Facebook will probably bring the stand-alone app to other regions soon enough.
