Last year, Nintendo released a plug and play version of their classic console the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES. However, due to its limited release, it is now a rare item. This year another gaming classic will be remade; the SNES Classic edition. Hosting a number of classic games like Final Fantasy 3, Castlevania 4, and Donkey Kong Country, this is definitely a nostalgia trip.
Nintendo SNES Classic Edition – Still a Limited Release
The SNES will also enjoy a more than limited run and is expected to be more available than its counterpart. According to theverge.com, a Nintendo representative confirmed a longer release period for the SNES Classic. However, the device is expected to ship from September 29 until the end of the year. Thus, maintaining its limited release status
According to Reggie Fils-Aimé, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, “We’ve got a lot going on right now, and we don’t have unlimited resources.” This makes sense though as the Nintendo Switch system and 3DS units are still highly in demand. Hence, making a retro console as part of their primary plans may be too much. Nintendo acknowledges this issue in a statement.
“…We are offering Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition in special recognition of the fans who show tremendous interest our classic content.”
Still, compared to its predecessor, the SNES Classic Edition may be easier to get a hold of. Set to release on September 29, it is priced at $ 79.99 or roughly Php 4,000.
