DJI, the world’s best producer of civilian drones, and expert in aerial imaging technology just announced the availability of its latest drones from the Mavic Series, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom – now packed with integrated Hasselblad camera, and optical zoom capability.
Mavic 2 Pro: World’s first drone with an integrated Hasselblad camera
DJI teamed up with the world’s leader in medium format photography, Hasselblad, in refining the existing imaging capabilities of the Mavic drones. The Mavic 2 Pro can now capture up to four times as many color details per channel than its predecessor with its 1-inch CMOS sensor with 10-bit Dlog-M color profile. The 20MP camera of the Mavic 2 Pro moreover boasts of Hasselblad’s proprietary technology, Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS) in producing more precise color outputs as well as apertures ranging from f/2.8 to f/11 to adjust to various lighting conditions.
Mavic 2 Zoom: First foldable consumer drone with zoom
As the name implies, the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom is powered by a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor which features an optical zoom and digital zoom. Its 12MP camera combines 2x optical zoom, mimicking a 24-48mm lens, and 2x digital zoom, providing images similar to that of a 96mm telephoto lens. Aside from having the capability to stream lossless video in FHD, the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom can also capture and stitch nine photos, producing sharper, 48MP images via its Super Resolution feature.
The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom’s Hybrid auto-focus technology which combines phase and contrast detection furthermore provides 40% faster focus speed, with more accuracy than the previous Mavic drone.
A feature unique to the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom is the Dolly Zoom QuickShot mode, which allows its users to produce ‘Dolly Zoom’ or technically zoom in on a subject while flying away – a technique made famous in movies by legendary directors, including Alfred Hitchcock.
More Epic Shots, Safer Flights
Both the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom can capture 4k videos, with a maximum bitrate of 100Mbps using H.265 codec, and has enhanced HDR capabilities that allows up to 14 stops of dynamic range to the Mavic 2 Pro and 13 stops to the Mavic 2 Zoom.
Aside from creating more cinematic shots and timelapse with its Circle, Course Lock, Waypoint or Free modes, the Mavic 2 drones also can now shoot at speeds of 72 km/h (44mph). The new Mavic drones are also the first DJI drones to be equipped with 10 sensors on all sides, supplemented by improved Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS), to automatically detect obstacles, and allow safer flights.
