Since the rise in popularity of touchscreen display, Gorilla Glass has mostly been the go-to-component to toughen up the devices’ front panel. Corning, however, is not content with just providing an extra layer of protection for touchscreen displays though, it also wants to offer its client a way to improve the look of their products.
Enter the Vibrant Gorilla Glass, a thin sheet of glass that not only offers the same level of protection against scratches, but could also allow manufacturers to personalize their devices and add a few style points on their product’s design in the process.
The new property of Vibrant Gorilla Glass is courtesy of Corning’s new proprietary ink-jet process which allows them to print virtually anything that they could possibly think of, including logos and photo-quality images, on the panel with great efficiency and quality.
Corning claims that sampling and shipping of the new Vibrant Gorilla Glass panel is already underway. This means that it won’t be too long before we see products, particularly devices with a glass-covered back panel, sporting this new glass panel.
