With a 13 MP front-facing camera with LED flash, the Cherry Mobile Selfie is one of the best selfie smartphones in the market today. Find out if Cherry Mobile’s selfie phone lived up to the hype on our review below.
Design and Construction
The Cherry Mobile Selfie sports a rather uncommon but pleasing design. The selfie smartphone has a beautifully arched top and bottom. It has wide bezels above and below the display housing the front camera, front flash, receiver and the menu, home and back keys. The Cherry Mobile Selfie has a light gold, brushed metal sides and buttons with concentric circles pretty much the same as the Zenfones’. On top of the smartphone you can find the headset jack and the power/lock key while the micro-USB charging slot can be found at the bottom. A dedicated camera key is located on the right side of the smartphone just below the SIM slot. On the left are the volume keys.
The dedicated camera key which I often mistakenly press to wake up the screen.
The Cherry Mobile Selfie uses a Micro-SIM and a Nano SIM, the Nano SIM slot doubles as a microSD card slot.
The Cherry Mobile Selfie has a non-removable plastic back cover with curved sides that runs all the way through the front, below the display. At the back is the not-so conspicuous 🙂 13-megapixel AF camera with the two LED flashes on its sides. Just below are the “˜Selfie and Cherry Mobile logos and the speaker.
The Cherry Mobile Selfie’s solid build and materials along with its ergonomic design offers a premium feel and allows it to sit nicely in the hand. Its prominent rear camera attracts a lot of attention and receives positive feedbacks every time.
The package comes with charger and data cable, in-ear headphones, SIM eject tool and manual.
Display and Multimedia
The Cherry Mobile Selfie has the same 4.7-inch display as the iPhone 6 which is one the most favored screen sizes by smartphone users. Some might frown on it not being Full HD but the 720p HD resolution and 320 dpi pixel density is more than enough to play your favorite movies and games with more details. Overall, the HD IPS display provides rich, brilliant colors with wider viewing angles while the Gorilla Glass 3 adds an extra layer of protection from scratches.
The Music Player has an Equalizer with presets to boost the audio and even lets you adjust the bass, surround sound, reverb and automatically create playlists with the Party shuffle. The Video player lets you loop, trim and share videos via Messaging, Bluetooth, YouTube or email.
OS, UI, Apps
The Cherry Mobile Selfie uses an Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. It has a fast and straightforward UI and comes pre-loaded with Cherry Mobile apps including Cherry Fun Club, Pinoy App Shop, Cherry Mobile OTA Update app right out of the box. The smartphone uses TouchPal X as default keyboard.
A camera-centric smartphone, the Cherry Mobile Selfie has a fast 13 MP Auto-Focus rear camera with Sony sensor and f/2.0 aperture allowing it to take quality photos even in low-light conditions. Additionally, it has a dual LED flash providing better illumination. The camera provides settings for Face Detection and Self timer and shooting video time lapse with 1 to 10-second intervals among others.
While most selfie smartphones use 5 or 8 MP front cameras, the Cherry Mobile Selfie is equipped with a 13 MP front-facing camera with LED flash making it an ideal smartphone for selfie lovers.
The Cherry Mobile Selfie takes good quality photos and videos although sometimes the camera tends to overexpose especially when shooting outdoor. Sometimes, the images would also appear a bit saturated. Fortunately, you can easily adjust the color, exposure, contrast, shadows, highlights, etc. with the Cherry Mobile Selfie’s photo editing tool. Moreover, you can enhance your selfie images using a number of presets and filters as well as add borders, crop, adjust the orientation and draw on the images.
The Cherry Mobile Selfie’s camera app has an on-screen shortcuts for setting the skin tone.

Performance and Benchmark
Having the same 1.7 GHz Octa-Core processor and 2 GB of RAM as the Omega Infinity, the Cherry Mobile Selfie was able to handle our favorite apps and games from Temple Run 2, Angry Birds Star Wars 2, Plant vs Zombies 2 to Asphalt 8 and Dead Trigger 2 with minimal or no lag at all. UI is smooth and switching between apps is instantaneous, similarly when browsing photos, listening to music or watching videos on the USB on-the-go.
The Cherry Mobile Selfie scored an impressive 33209 using Antutu Benchmark, ranking it next to LG G3 and above the HTC One, Xiaomi Redmi Note and Mi 2. The Dual-SIM Octa-Core smartphone also logged impressive scores in other benchmarking tools.
