In the past couple of weeks we’ve seen a lot of touch-enabled Windows 8 devices ranging from notebooks, tablet/notebook hybrids to all-in-one PCs. But how about for people who only wants a tablet-only solution? Enter the Asus VivoTab Smart ME400, a Windows 8 tablet, nothing more nothing less.
It was Microsoft who first introduced a Windows 8 tablet in the form of the Surface, but unfortunately, it won’t be available locally. Asus came to the rescue with their VivoTab Smart ME400 which comes with Windows 8 Pro, not the RT version.
The Asus VivoTab Smart ME400 is a 10.1-inch tablet with a 1366 x 768 resolution on a multi-touch screen. It is powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 SoC which is inferior than the Surface’s Intel Core i5 processor but still a decent low-power dual-core solution for tablets. It comes with 2GB RAM, 64GB storage and has an 8 megapixel f2.2 lens at the back.
This slate is bundled with a magnetic Transleeve cover ala Apple’s Smart Cover that can be folded in many ways for a multi-purpose design. There’s also an optional Bluetooth keyboard cover accessory that functions similarly to the Surface’s Touch Cover.
Overall, the Asus VivoTab Smart ME400 is a sleek-looking, acceptably thin and lightweight tablet which gives you the full benefit of a Windows 8 OS for the price of Php25,995.
