Now that the ASUS ROG Phone has landed in Manila, it’s time to revisit the reasons that make it one of the powerful gaming phones in the market today. After a brief introduction and price reveal at the ESGS 2018, several key features of the ROG Phone was highlighted during the event.
Design & Construction
The ROG Phone is ultimately designed for gaming, which is why it comes with a plethora of accessories tailored fit to enhance not only the device’s performance but also to improve user experience. However, even on its own, the ROG Phone packs unique features that can be used for specific games such as the advanced haptics and air triggers. This allows you to use the phone’s side panel as additional buttons when playing PUBG or other similar games.
Another key design feature of the ROG Phone is its side-mounted port which takes away the hassle of avoiding the cord while charging the phone or when using headphones. Though the phone itself already has an impressive cooling system, when paired with the AeroActive cooler, the ROG Phone gets an extra cooling boost as well as a separate 3.5mm earphone jack.
The speakers are also conveniently placed on the back panel: something that a lot of phones in the market miss out on. Most smartphone speakers nowadays are often placed at the bottom, where it tends to get covered when gripping the phone horizontally while playing.
Display & Multimedia
The ROG Phone takes pride in its AMOLED screen with an ultra-fast refresh rate of 90Hz and a 1ms response time. This means that you’ll be able to experience the full glory of graphics-heavy games without any lags or compromises. The 6-inch display also has a 108% DCI-P3 gamut which produces vivid and realistic colors.
Camera
Though not fully optimized for mobile photography, the ROG Phone has a rear 12MP+8MP dual camera and an 8MP front camera for selfies. The high-end chipset that powers the phone helps in improving camera performance and processing images.
Performance & Battery
When it comes to performance, there is no denying that the ROG Phone is a lean, mean, gaming machine. With its Octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset, Adreno 630 GPU and an 8GB RAM, the ROG Phone has climbed up the charts in terms of processing power and speed. There is a Game Center menu which allows you to monitor the unit’s performance and customize settings according to your gaming needs.
