Apple is seen to adapt triple-lens cameras into an iPhone model by 2019 following Huawei’s dominance in the segment.
After known smartphone brands equipped their devices with dual cameras, China’s Huawei advanced the game with the introduction of P20 and P20 Pro.
And an industry analyst predicted Apple will join the battle, Economic Daily News reported.
Citing Deutsche Securities analyst Jialin Lu, the US-based company is already developing an iPhone model with three rear cameras set to be launched next year.
This will also give Apple the advantage to explore its augmented reality (AR) division as Apple is expected to use advanced 3D sensing through stereoscopic vision, Lu noted.
It is also projected to function like the TrueDepth system found on the iPhone X, which is the technology that enables the Face ID feature.
The tech analyst also stressed the new iPhone camera lenses can offer a longer focal length, enhancing the zoom capabilities of its rear camera. It may sport a 3x optical zoom.
Currently, Apple’s iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X only offer a maximum of 2x optical zoom.
