Bloomberg today confirmed rumors on Apple’s plans on launching high-end over-the-ear wireless headphones. This follows the impending relase of the Airpods sometime this year. It also makes perfect sense, since the company’s $3 billion purchase of Beats by Dre in 2014.
Many found themselves impressed of the $159 2016 AirPods due to its design and decent sound quality. Now, Apple will allegedly release higher end headphones. Bloomberg also reports how over the past year, work has gone on and off, as with the HomePod development. In fact, the HomePod itself faced several redesigns before finalization.
Prior to release, many speculate that Apple might redesign or completely scrap the headphones project instead. For now, it remains unclear how the company would set this apart from Beats’ own wireless models.
2nd generation Airpods launching this year
On the other hand, the second-generation AirPods, set to launch in 2018, will come with Siri integration and water resistance.
