A number of iPhone 8 users claimed the device “splitting open” possibly due to its battery expanding. A representative confirms Apple’s investigation on the issue.
One user uploaded on Twitter a photo of their iPhone 8 Plus bulging from the middle, even prior to unboxing. The screen appeared completely detached from the chassis. In addition, another iPhone 8 Plus user reported a similar experience while charging the unit.

Apple claims these reports as isolated cases.
Samsung and LG reportedly worked on the new iPhone 8 battery. Of course, they tweaked the technology for wireless and fast charging. While swollen batteries pose no safety hazard, people should not use or charge them. Lithium-ion batteries bloat due to unexpected gas buildup from chemical reactions.
Selling millions worldwide, Apple launched iPhone 8 last month. However, only a small percentage of incidents have surfaced. Further reports on the issue remain to be seen.
