New Android 8 Beta V5.160 now available for the Nokia 5
Just after the Nokia 8, the Nokia 5 also received the Android Oreo 8 beta update early December. The device has undergone notable changes soon after. Rolling out as an OTA (over-the-air) 1.7Gb update, the new beta touts the build number V5.160.
Reports from NokiaPowerUser claim that the new update aims to fix a multitasking-related issue previously not addressed. No clear changes, however, have surfaced regarding the difference between this beta and the one it precedes. In addition, the device will most likely receive the final Oreo release in January of next year.
Apart from the alleged multitasking bug fix, it remains apparent that no significant device interface changes will come with the new Oreo beta update.
More features to come with final Android 8.0 beta release
The latest iteration of the Android operating system, Oreo promises major improvements in features and user experience for most Android devices. Picture-in-picture, faster boot times, integrated Instant Apps, Google Play Protect, and more await eager users and fans of the operating system.
HMD Global’s promise of rolling out the latest Android updates and security patches remains steady and consistent. The company has also committed itself to rolling out the final, stable Android Oreo update to its smartphone lineup come the end of 2018.
If this isn’t enough reason to jump aboard Nokia’s ship, HMD Global intends on providing its devices two years of OS update support, arguably more than what most other companies offer. This also confirms that the Android P update will more than likely be rolled out to the smartphones in due time.
To download the update, check and search for software updates by going into the Settings option on your device. Once the download option shows up for the update, simply click and wait for the beta to install on your device. Of course, beta software tends to run unpredictably, so it’s better to reserve them for secondary phones.
