Rumors have been circulating on the web about the release of the Android 2.3 OS a.k.a. ‘Gingerbread’ on November 11, 2010.
The next version of the Android OS was previously announced earlier for a Q4 2010 launch. Initially we were thinking that Gingerbread will have the build number of 3 or will be tagged as Android 3.0 but it seems that it will be an incremental update of the current version of the Android 2.2 (Froyo).
Don’t get yourself to excited though especially if you’re using first-gen Android phones. Gingerbread is rumored to be needing at least 1GHz of processor to have a usable experience. Most of the changes deal with animations and graphical improvements as well as VoIP apps which may not be of value to entry-level Android phones.
