Last Friday, Alcatel held an event where they unveiled two of their latest Android offerings along with a Hunger Games movie treat. These phones will be joining Alcatel’s one touch phone series and will be available in the country this coming April.
Alcatel One Touch Glory X 918N
The first phone introduced is the Alcatel One Touch Glory X 918N. It is pretty much the same dual SIM phone as its predecessor, the Glory 918N in both looks and specs. What is unique about this phone though is its interchangeable casing that comes in black blue and red. The rep told me however that the packaging will only include two casings with a choice of either black and blue, or black and red. The phone runs with the Gingerbread version of Android and a slightly altered skin. The icons in the app drawer remind me of the Nokia N9’s rounded square icons. The Glory X 918N, with its dual SIM and colorful casings in tow, will be available for Php6,199.00.

Alcatel One Touch Sapphire HD 995
The other device launched in the event is the Alcatel One Touch Sapphire HD 995. This beast of a phone boasts of a 1.4 Ghz CPU and a 4.3″ WVGA capacitive screen. It runs with Android 2.3 and utilizes Alcatel’s one touch UI that implements a 3d carousel view of your home screens akin to the SPB 3D launcher. Personally, I really liked the Sapphire HD. The interface was smooth, the hardware is not too big for my taste and for the retail price of Php 13,999 the specs are not bad at all. What is really surprising here is for that price, it also has a lot of features present (or not present) in most high-end Android devices that is double its price.
