Last time we reviewed AKG’s entry-level earphones, the K309 and K311. The AKG K402 is their entry-level headphones and they are marketing this for people on the go with its funky color and foldable design.
The AKG K402 is made up of flexible steel as its band along with hard plastic. I just love the red color on this one. The band slides within each other and the earcups, or should we say earpads, fold flat for a compact form for storage. Too bad there’s no carrying pouch included in the package.
The band offers enough resistance for a snug fit that won’t fall off easily but it’s also prone to mishandling that might crack the plastic parts. Instead of pleather, the K402 uses foam pads which can be more comfortable to use but also wears out faster. The size of this headphones may be suitable for on-the-go use but your music would blare out from it and it doesn’t offer any sort of noise cancellation.
Use this in your own home on in a quiet room and you will appreciate its sound quality. The K402 shines especially for bass-heavy tunes with enough isolation on the lows. Mids are satisfactory but has a strong inclination to lower mids. Sound quality is actually decent for its price (Php1,599) if you’re into hip hop and party music so all you need to worry about is taking good care of it because construction feels a bit flimsy.
AKG K402 Specs:
- Rated Impedance: 32 ohms
- Max. Input Power: 30mW
- Efficiency: 125 dB SPL/V
- Audio Bandwidth: 17-20 kHz

I dunno but this headphones look cheap for 1,599. =(
These phones are ok. But you’ll find better worth with a Koss Porta Pro. It started this headband portable can design. I’m pretty sure it’ll sound better too.
