In line with its commitment to continuously enhance the programming skills of IT professionals in the country, Accenture Philippines recently held its first Technology Talks Hackathon, a two-day coding event with the challenge of developing a people tracking application that can spell the difference between rescue and recovery operations during an emergency.
A total of 39 teams competed to create the best app for emergencies but eventually it was the e-Ligtas app from developers Maria Imelda Pizarra and Argie Badua which bagged the top award and the Php 150,000 cash prize. e-Ligtas is a mobile or wearable technology application that allows a user, in need of immediate help, to send an automatic SMS with GPS that coordinates his/her current location, as well as an automated call with just a tap or shake of one’s device.
Jomar Tigcal and Celine Barrozo of Team Sweldong Pinoy took home the second place and Team CAFfre Fort composed of Samuel Jacob Francisco, Gian Darren Azriel Aquino, and Harold Calayan won third place.
