It’s not everyday that you can carry a USB flash drive or an external hard drive. And there are times when you’re outside and you need an important file only to realize that you left your storage device at home. I can remember few instances before where I had to call home and have somebody open the PC and email me some files.
The past few years have been easier with the advent of free cloud storage providers. Cloud storage providers such as Dropbox, Google Drive or SkyDrive provide you the convenience of storing and backing up your files in the cloud, allowing you to access them anywhere.
But having your data on the cloud is not all pluses and advantages. First, there’s the cost. These cloud storage providers only offer free storage up to some extent. Dropbox for example, offers 2GB while SkyDrive’s free account gives you 7GB. If you require more space, then you have to pay for the additional storage. Then there’s always the question about security. People are always dubious about entrusting their data to third party cloud service providers.
Western Digital recently introduced two new cloud based solutions, the WD My Cloud and the WD My Cloud EX4. The new WD My Cloud family of personal cloud solutions gives you the same benefits of cloud storage providers and more, less the fees and without sacrificing privacy.
Your own Personal Cloud
The WD My Cloud provides consumers their own personal cloud. Now, you can store files, photos, videos, documents and other data and access them anywhere in the world using your laptop, tablet or mobile device by simply connecting the WD My Cloud personal cloud drive to the Internet.
