I dropped by Smart Wireless Center at Festival Mall Alabang. There are renewed marketing activities by eStandard cellphone insurance. And now they are doing it in partnership with Smart.
Txt2Protect
The first Insurance Policy for Pre-paid Cellphones!Insure now and cover your cellphone aginst Accidental Damage, Snatching, hold-up, robbery, slashing or any other event wherein your phone is taken by actual or threatened force.
Pay a premium (either 1 year or three months) and you can claim for replacement or repair of your cellphone depending on the type of damage/loss.
Sample premium prices for selected units:
Most expensive:
Nokia 8800: P4,634.64 (1 year) ; P865 (3 mos)Least expensive:
Nokia 3310, Bird, Alcatel: P217.70 (1 year) ; P55 to P65 (3 mos)
I investigated further through a sales representative. She explains that to claim for any of the above incidents, clients will need to:
- File a police blotter within 24 hours
- Call the hotline (02-845-1111) within 24 hours
- Present two valid IDs
- Present the certificate of insurance
Processing of claims takes 10 days.
For replacement of cellphone unit, the insurance pays 75% and the client pays 25% as participation.
There’s a “pre-accidental plan” of P100,000 automatically included in the 1 year premium. This means that if you die due to anything that has to do with your cellphone (e.g. nasagasaan ka habang nag-te-text, nasaksak ka dahil nakipag-agawan ka sa snatcher etc.), you will get P100,000. Note that you have to die before they give you this P100,000.
Geeezz. Death due to cellphone. Insurance for your cellphone.
Is it worth it?

another question is, Would you dare to buy a cellphone and die due to snatching/hold-up and claim 100,000 only?
C’mon don’t look at the 100,000 that way. I think it’s a bonus they could throw in since Standard Insurance offers personal accident insurance.
ka edong, have you seen that pawnshop for cellphones sa may pasay? I have seen it twice (tuwing umuuwi ako). It’s on the right side before you go up the ramp to the NAIA.
baka may nagnanakaw din, pwede na kasi isangla or ibenta.
pero ha, nakakatawa naman insurance para sa cell.
There are many cellphone-only pawnshops now. I believe most/all the jewelry pawnshops accept cellphones already. I’m not sure how wise is that since cellphones aren’t investment items.
